Chevy Bolt's Final Slice
For years, the Chevy Bolt has been cherished by electric vehicle enthusiasts as the most affordable option for American consumers. However, General Motors' decision to halt production at the end of 2023 to focus on electric pickup trucks and SUVs marks the end of an era for this beloved hatchback EV.
But before bidding farewell, the Chevy Bolt is finding a new purpose in the pizza industry, thanks to Domino's visionary move. Domino's is taking a giant leap towards sustainability by acquiring over 1,150 Chevy Bolts to serve as pizza delivery cars.
Already, Domino's has added 800 Chevy Bolts to its delivery fleet this year alone, with plans to incorporate around 300 more, bringing the total to a staggering 1,156 EVs, as reported by Electrek.
The impact of this decision is evident across the United States. States like Michigan and California are at the forefront of the green delivery movement, with 103 and 140 EVs on the road respectively by the end of 2023. Conversely, West Virginia will not be joining the EV revolution, leaving it with zero EVs.
This pioneering initiative sets Domino's apart, marking them as the largest fleet of pizza-delivering electric vehicles in the country. Beyond pizza delivery efficiency, this move is a part of Domino's grand vision to achieve net-zero carbon emissions status by 2050.
Domino's commitment to the environment doesn't end with EVs. The company introduced e-bikes to its delivery fleet in 2019, furthering its dedication to sustainable practices. Additionally, they've taken steps to educate customers about recycling pizza boxes, dispelling misconceptions about their recyclability. By printing recycling information on their boxes, they aim to reduce waste and make a positive impact on the planet.
"We're thrilled with the advantages EVs bring, not only for our business and the environment but also for our hiring process," says Joe Jordan, Domino's president of U.S. and global services. "Electric delivery vehicles open up a whole new pool of job candidates who may not have their own vehicles."
As Domino's forges ahead in the electric pizza delivery revolution, they inspire other businesses to embrace eco-friendly practices, proving that joy can come in the form of both pizza and sustainability.
