Andrew Joseph Cohen is an American radio and television talk show host, producer, and writer. He is the host and executive producer of Bravo's late-night talk show Watch What Happens Live! and the Real Housewives franchise. He also hosts a two-hour show twice a week on Sirius XM with co-host John Hill.

Early Life and Education

Cohen was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Evelyn and Lou Cohen. He has an older sister, Emily Rosenfeld. He is Jewish, with roots in Poland, Russia, and Lithuania. He grew up in the St. Louis suburb of Clayton, where he developed a keen interest in television and pop culture from a young age.

Cohen has described his childhood as idyllic, with no major trauma, but he was always drawn to the spotlight. He formed the habit of using a hairbrush as a pretend microphone. He was a devoted fan of the soap opera All My Children, which he watched religiously. His love of the soap led him to his first celebrity interview subject — Susan Lucci — whom he persuaded to agree to an interview with him in New York in December 1987 while he was a journalism student at Boston University.

Cohen attended Clayton High School, graduating in 1986. He was voted "Most Talkative" by his classmates, a title that would prove prophetic. He then went to Boston University, where he studied broadcast journalism in the College of Communication and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He also came out as gay while at Boston University.

Career Beginnings

After graduation, Cohen landed a job in New York as a news clerk at CBS News, assigned to the network's morning show CBS This Morning. He remained at CBS for 10 years, eventually becoming a producer on the morning show and also on the prime-time news magazine 48 Hours. During this time, he was told he was "too cross-eyed" to ever be on television — a comment that didn't deter him from climbing the corporate ladder.

In 2000, he landed a job in program development at Trio, a cable network owned by NBCUniversal. At Trio, he won his first Peabody Award for producing the documentary The N-Word.

Rise at Bravo

In 2004, Cohen moved to Bravo as vice president of original programming. He rose through the network's ranks, ultimately serving as executive vice president of Development and Talent until 2013. He was responsible for creating original content, developing innovative formats, and identifying new talent.

Cohen oversaw some of Bravo's biggest shows, including Top Chef, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and Project Runway. He also helped develop the Real Housewives franchise, starting with The Real Housewives of Orange County in 2006. He continues to serve as executive producer of the franchise and hosts the reunion specials that air at the conclusion of each season.

In 2009, Cohen's late-night talk show Watch What Happens Live! debuted on Bravo. He is the host and executive producer of the show. Initially airing weekly, the show expanded to a nightly format. Cohen and broadcast journalist Anderson Cooper have been friends for over 20 years. They were originally set up on a blind date by mutual friends in the 1990s, but Cooper called it off before they could get together. Despite the failed romantic setup, they became close friends and have co-hosted CNN's New Year's Eve Live specials since 2017. Their friendship has become a beloved part of their public personas.

Cohen is a single father. He has two children: a son, Benjamin Allen Cohen (born February 2019), and a daughter, Lucy Eve Cohen (born 2022). Both children were born via surrogacy. He named his son after his grandfather Ben Allen.

In 2025, Cohen went public with his relationship with New York City-based businessman Kevin Sobieski. Cohen has described the relationship as "slow and deliberate" and has introduced Sobieski to his children. He has said that Sobieski "loves my children, and they love him".
