New chip manufacturing technology
Apple and Intel Corp. plan to be the first to use the next-generation chip-making technology developed by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). This was reported by Japanese business newspaper Nikkei on Friday.
It noted that US companies could start using these latest technologies as early as next year before they appear on the open market. According to the business daily's sources, Apple and Intel are currently testing technology to produce 3-nanometer chips from the Taiwanese manufacturer.
According to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the use of such chips would increase device performance by 10 percent, while power consumption would be reduced by 25-30 percent. The chips are expected to be the first to be used in Apple's iPad tablets.
It is worth noting that in the last year the world has faced a shortage of semiconductors, which is associated with a sharp increase in demand for these products due to the transition of mobile communications in many countries to the fifth generation systems. With the pandemic and the expansion of remote working schemes, the production of personal computers and gaming consoles has also increased.
