Trading on Tuesday
US stock indices closed on Tuesday in the positive, reacting positively to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell's words that a "soft landing" for the economy is still possible.
At the close of trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones was up 1.34%, the S&P 500 was up 2.02% and the Nasdaq Composite was up 2.76%.
Thus, shares of such companies rose in yesterday's trading: Boeing (NYSE: BA) +6.45%, American Express Company (NYSE: AXP) +3.46%, JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) +3.31%, Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ: TTWO) +11.78%, TriState Capital Holdings (NASDAQ: TSC) +3. 08%, Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) +8.73%, Omega Flex (NASDAQ: OFLX) +0.76%, Broadmark Realty Capital (NYSE: BRMK) +2.02%, LeMaitre Vascular (NASDAQ: LMAT) +4.43%, Lyell Immunopharma (NASDAQ: LYEL) +3.07%, Mission Produce (NASDAQ: AVO) +1.90%.
However, shares of such companies fell in yesterday's trading: Walmart (NYSE: WMT) -11.38%, Procter and Gamble (NYSE: PG) -0.28%, Dollar Tree (NASDAQ: DLTR) -3. 16%, Autoweb (NASDAQ: AUTO) -65.37%, Farmland Partners (NYSE: FPI) -0.55%, Enjoy Technology (NASDAQ: ENJY) -52.79%, FibroGen (NASDAQ: FGEN) -0.43%, Model N (NYSE: MODN) -0.73%, ARMOUR Residential REIT (NYSE: ARR) -0.66%.
Also, on NYSE, the number of securities that went up (2,514) exceeded the numb. that closed in the red (696), while 98 stocks were virtually unchanged. On the Nasdaq, 3,023 stocks gained, 797 declined and 169 remained flat at the previous close.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which is derived from options trading on the S&P 500, fell 4.99% to 26.10.
