SNL’s Cut Sketch
Love Is Blind came close to getting a hilariously outrageous parody on Saturday Night Live, thanks to cast members Mikey Day and Heidi Gardner — but the sketch didn’t survive the final cut.
In a recent interview, Day revealed the duo came up with a bold spoof of the Netflix dating show, which is known for pairing up singles who don’t see each other until they’re engaged. Their version, however, added a raunchy twist: it was called Love Is Ass.
“It was a parody of Love Is Blind. It was called Love Is Ass,” Day said in an interview with Us Weekly. “In Love Is Blind, you don’t see the person. And in this, it would’ve been you’re sitting in a little room and there’s a little hole in the wall and someone just puts their ass [up to it] and all you can see is their ass. So you’re having a conversation staring at their rear end.”
While the idea never made it to air, Day, now in his ninth season on SNL, says he’s used to seeing sketches get the axe and doesn’t take it personally. Still, he admits this one might have been particularly fun to bring to life — and he hasn’t completely ruled out its future.
“That one would have been fun,” he added. “Maybe one day.”
Despite this particular skit being shelved, Day has had plenty of wins on the SNL stage. One of his favorite moments? A Beavis and Butthead parody he performed alongside Ryan Gosling, whom he called “the cool, beautiful, popular kid” of the cast whenever he hosts. Day says Gosling’s charm and genuine friendliness always make his visits a highlight.
Outside of SNL, Day has kept his comedic energy going in a new ad campaign for Dollar Car Rental. In it, he transforms into five eccentric characters, poking fun at the everyday annoyances of modern travel — from overzealous packers to people who take over every working airport outlet.
“People who hog chargers at the airport,” Day joked. “Usually there’s only like two working outlets at an airport. People who post up and plug all their stuff in.”
Whether he’s satirizing dating shows or travel pet peeves, Mikey Day proves there’s comedy gold to be found in even the most ridiculous parts of real life.
Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
