Stock market on Tuesday
US stock indices were mixed in early trading ahead of President Biden's likely announcement that the US will ban all Russian oil imports at 10:45am ET.
The Nasdaq Composite, which entered Monday's bear market, was down 0.5 per cent, while the S&P 500 was slightly lower and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was little changed. The rise in oil prices above $130 a barrel on Monday was driven by the possibility that the US could ban crude imports from Russia. Oil prices stabilised late in the day and were moderately higher on Tuesday at $126.
A gallon of regular gasoline now costs an average of $4.17 nationwide after breaking the $4 barrier on Sunday for the first time since 2008 per AAA.
Gold has also climbed above the $2,000 mark in an attempt to escape.
Apple with its event will be in the spotlight today.
