Biography

Steve Ballmer is the former CEO of Microsoft. He joined the company in 1980 at the invitation of Bill Gates, whom he met while studying at Harvard. It was he who led the development of the first versions of MS-DOS and Windows.

In 2000, Ballmer succeeded Gates, replacing him as CEO. He is often accused of missed opportunities in the markets: some technologies were originally invented by Microsoft, but found commercial success thanks to Apple (iPods, iPhones, iPads). In 2012-2013, Forbes included Ballmer among the "worst CEOs of public companies in the United States." During his tenure, Microsoft's overall stock price fell 36%.

In 2021, Forbes estimated his fortune at $68700 million.
