Media Bias Exposed
Rainn Wilson, best known for his role as Dwight Schrute on The Office, has stepped into political commentary, questioning how left-leaning media covers former President Donald Trump compared to President Joe Biden.
During a recent episode of his Soul Boom podcast titled "Why Everyone’s Turning Off the News", Wilson spoke with MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle about rising public distrust in the media. While Ruhle pointed to Trump’s antagonism toward the press and Elon Musk’s push for people to abandon traditional news platforms, Wilson wasn’t entirely convinced.
“This is where I would push back,” he said. “I see this kind of insight and passion being directed at the current administration, and the lack of this kind of insight and passion being directed at the previous administration.”
Wilson elaborated further, criticizing progressive outlets for downplaying concerns around issues like immigration and the economy, saying they presented a sugar-coated version of reality: “They were kind of like, ‘La, la, la, la, la, Everything's fine…’ and really, being Cleopatra, Queen of Denial.”
Ruhle countered that media does, in fact, scrutinize Biden, but admitted that Republicans tend to vocalize uncomfortable truths more freely. She added that when people raise valid concerns — especially around immigration — they’re often unfairly labeled as xenophobic or racist.
The conversation reflected a broader fatigue with modern news culture. Wilson shared that many of his podcast guests have simply stopped following the news altogether, choosing instead to focus on personal well-being. He described this shift as life-enhancing for many.
This candid exchange between a Hollywood figure and a seasoned journalist sheds light on how deeply fragmented media perception has become — even among those in the public eye. Whether you agree or disagree, one thing’s clear: people are paying attention to how the news is told, not just what’s being said.
