Biography
Mary Schapiro has been a director at Morgan Stanley since July 2018.
Career
She is the Vice Chair for Global Public Policy and Special Advisor to the Founder and Chair of Bloomberg L.P. and was previously managing director of Promontory Financial Group LLC from March 2013 to January 2014. Ms. Schapiro served as the Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, from January 2009 to December 2012.
She was also the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”) from 2006 to 2008, and served in numerous other key executive positions at FINRA and its predecessor from 1996 to 2006, including Vice Chair and President of NASD Regulation. Ms. Schapiro served as Chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission from 1994 to 1996. She currently serves on the board of CVS Health Corporation.
Ms. Schapiro is also Vice Chair of the Board of The Value Reporting Foundation and is a member of the Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing Advisory Board.
Education
Ms. Schapiro is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and received a Juris Doctor from George Washington University School of Law.
