Working after a cyber-attack

Meat processing company JBS has fully restored operations at all its facilities following a cyber attack. The company said in a statement published on its website on Thursday.

The document stressed that the company "has fully restarted operations at all of its facilities around the world following the mitigation of the cyber-attack on 30 May". JBS chief executive Andre Nogueira said that the "rapid restoration of operations" of the plants was made possible by the "dedicated work" of internet technology and cybersecurity experts.

"Criminals have not gained access to our key systems, which has largely mitigated the negative impact", he pointed out. "Fortunately, all our facilities around the world are now running smoothly, and we are focused on fulfilling our responsibility to produce safe, high quality products", he added. The company said the attackers had not gained access to personal details of JBS customers, suppliers or employees.

The statement noted that immediately after the cyberattack, the company "notified federal authorities of the incident and deployed cyber defence tools". "We would like to thank the White House, the US Department of Agriculture and the FBI for their support in quickly resolving this issue", the company executive said.
