Liam Defends Tour Lineup
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has addressed fans' concerns regarding the recently revealed support acts for the band’s highly anticipated reunion tour. This monumental tour marks the first time in 16 years that Liam and his brother Noel will perform together on stage. Set to kick off in 2025, the tour promises exciting performances across the UK, Ireland, North America, and Australia, as fans eagerly await this long-awaited musical collaboration.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Richard Ashcroft, former frontman of The Verve and a long-time friend of the Gallaghers, will be opening the UK and Ireland dates. This news came shortly after The Independent revealed the details in an exclusive report. For the North American leg of the tour, the opening act will be the US rock band Cage the Elephant.
However, some fans have voiced disappointment over the choice of support acts, hoping for younger, up-and-coming bands to be given a spotlight. Liam, known for his outspoken nature, took to X/Twitter to defend the decision. He wrote: “To all the folk who are crying about us not showing love to the young bands and not letting them support there’s LEVELS to this game and I’m afraid 99 [per cent] of ya are way off.”
Richard Ashcroft's ties to Oasis date back to the early '90s, marking a significant chapter in the history of British music. In 1993, Oasis had the honor of opening for Ashcroft’s band, The Verve, during a memorable performance. Just two years later, the roles reversed when Ashcroft took the stage as the opening act for Oasis at the iconic Bataclan venue in Paris.
Richard Ashcroft, a celebrated artist with a thriving solo career boasting six top 10 albums, is eager to reunite with Oasis for their much-anticipated return to the stage. He shared his thoughts on the profound influence of Oasis's music on his artistic evolution, stating, "It was the sheer brilliance of ‘Live Forever’ that inspired me to embark on my own songwriting journey." Since the disbandment of The Verve in 2009, Ashcroft has continued to flourish as a solo musician, with his latest project, Acoustic Hymns Vol 1, debuting in 2021. His reflections underscore the enduring impact of iconic bands on individual creativity, a testament to the timeless power of music.
