Deadly Games, Global Craze
Get ready for more high-stakes drama and brightly lit mayhem as Netflix’s record-breaking series, Squid Game, gears up for its highly anticipated second season. At Netflix's "Geeked Week" event in Atlanta, fans were treated to a teaser, reigniting the excitement around the South Korean series that shocked the world.
The show’s satirical take on a deadly tournament where financially desperate contestants compete in childhood games—only to discover the lethal stakes—returns with Lee Jung-jae reprising his role. This time, his character is determined to take down the sinister “Front Man” (Lee Byung-hun), who orchestrates the deadly spectacle. Season two is set to premiere on December 26.
The creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has confirmed that the show’s storyline will span three seasons, and we won’t have to wait long for the final chapter, expected next year. "Squid Game" became a global sensation in 2021, racking up over 3 billion minutes of streams in one week in the U.S. alone, a testament to its worldwide appeal. The show was also a major awards contender, bagging three Primetime Emmys, including Best Drama Actor for Lee Jung-jae, and making history as the first non-English language show nominated for Best Drama Series.
Reflecting on the show’s global impact, Lee Jung-jae noted, "We never imagined it would become this big, but it shows how stories from any culture can resonate worldwide."
With its mix of thrilling suspense and commentary on social inequality, Squid Game is once again poised to captivate audiences.
