Netflix brings reality show
The streaming service Netflix intends to launch its own reality show based on the South Korean series The Squid Game. It was announced by the company's press office on Tuesday.
"Netflix is bringing the global phenomenon of 'The Squid Game' to life with the biggest ever reality show, 'The Squid Game: The Challenge'," it said in a statement.
Like the South Korean series, the creators of the new project want to bring 456 contestants under one roof to compete for the $4.56 million prize. The challenge will also be inspired by the events of what became Netflix's most successful project, but the lives and health of the participants in the show, unlike the series, will not be in jeopardy. "The stakes are high, but in this game the worst that can happen is you go home empty-handed," organisers said.
It is worth noting that a special website has already been set up to find contestants, where anyone with knowledge of English can post their application.
"Squid Game" has been recognized as Netflix's most successful project. In the first four weeks since its release on September 17, 2021, viewers have devoted more than 1.65 billion hours to the series. The series is about a secret survival game in which people whose lives have come to a standstill risk their lives for a huge cash reward.
What's more, the streaming service announced a second season of The Squid Game this week.
