Education and Experience Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York plus valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in an approved medical specialty; and four years of medical practice including one year of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or A Combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that listed in “1” above. However, all candidates must have valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York, and one year of medical practice in administrative or supervisory capacity. Desired Skills Must have excellent clinical judgment and ability to accurately determine if employees with complex medical issues are able to perform the position’s duties. Clinical experience in an occupational setting and current certification as a FMCSA medical examiner are also preferred. |
Duties: | Supervise staff physician and physical therapist performance and documentation of pre-placement medical examinations to determine applicant qualification for position consistent with regulations and agency policies and standards. Supervise staff physician and physical therapist performance and documentation of periodic and other medical examinations as required for position and make appropriate work status determinations. Provide medical review for FMLA, short term disability and other medical issues as needed by agency departments. Conduct “peer to peer” discussions with the personal health care providers of employees out sick/injured on duty. Work with Corporate Occupational Health Officer, Medical Director, Director, Medical Assessment Center and other clinical staff members as needed for medical review, quality assurance and audit activities. Work with Corporate Occupational Health Officer and the Medical Director to develop policies, planning documents, and quality improvements. Work with MTAHQs and Corporate Occupational Health Officer and Medical Director to develop plans and processes under public health emergencies – COVID-19, MERS, SARS, Ebola and other emergencies declared by the Federal, State and City. Assist with the legal review and decision making of policy and guidelines. Other duties as assigned. |

All selected candidates will be subject to a full background investigation that includes employment and education. Discrepancies may lead to dismissal. Appointment may be comparable level to current level of selected candidate. Other Information As an employee of NYCT or MABSTOA, you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the State of New York, if your position earns more than $101,379 (this figure is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker. Summary: This position will supervise directly activities of the staff physicians across the MTA HQs in conjunction with the NYCT, MTA Bus, LIRR and MNR Deputy Medical Directors. This position will have direct responsibility for the MTA physical therapists at the medical assessment center. This position will also perform medical evaluations which include pre-placement, periodic, medical surveillance, fitness for duty and return to duty examinations and render appropriate work status decisions. The incumbent will need to be a certified medical review officer, within 6 months of hire, who will review drug test results in compliance with DOT regulations and agency policies. In conjunction with the Director, Medical Assessment Center and MTA agency liaisons, will ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations and agency policies and standards. This position will provide testimony as the occupational health services expert in court cases and arbitrations. This position will provide legal review and decision making of policy and procedures.
