Biography
Santiago Mitre is an Argentine film director and screenwriter. He was named as a member of the jury of the International Critics' Week section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. In 2016, Mitre won the Havana Star Prize for Best Director for his film Paulina at the 17th Havana Film Festival New York.
H co-directed with Alejandro Fadel, Martin Mauregui, and Juan Schnitman, El amor, a feature that was presented at BAFICI and Settimana Internazionale della Critica in Venice, among other festivals. He wrote three features films for Pablo Trapero: Leonera (Cannes Competition – 2008), Carancho (Un Certain Regard – 2010) and Elefante Blanco (Un Certain Regard – 2012).
He also wrote together with Israel Caetano, Damián Szifron and Walter Salles. In 2011, he co-produced his first feature film as writer and director, El Estudiante. The film received numerous awards such as Locarno’s Special Jury Prize/Cineasti del Presente, Best Film in Gijón and Cartagena, FIPRESCI Best Argentinean film 2011. His second feature film as writer and director La Patota (Paulina), premiered internationally at La Semaine de la Critique Cannes 2015, where it was awarded the Nespresso Grand Prix as well as the FIPRESCI award.
