The Oscar 2023
The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts on Wednesday unveiled a shortlist of contenders for the Oscar in 10 categories.
A total of 15 films were shortlisted in this category out of 144 eligible documentaries, of which only five will be nominated later.
Entries include All That Breathes 2022 by Indian Shaunak Sen, Descendant by American Margaret Brown, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed 2022 by American Laura Poitras, Fire of Love 2022 by Sara Dosa, The Janes 2022 by Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes, Moonage Daydream 2022 by Brett Morgen and many others.
The Oscar shortlist was also announced in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The list included 15 films, Argentina, 1985, 2002 directed by Santiago Mitre, Corsage 2022 directed by Austrian Marie Kreutzer, Close 2022 directed by Belgian Lukas Dhont, Saint Omer 2022 directed by Frenchwoman Alice Diop.
However, films from countries such as: Cambodia, Denmark, Germany, India, Ireland, Mexico, Morocco, Pakistan, Poland, the Republic of Korea and Sweden.
In addition, contenders for the prestigious film award are presented in the categories of Best Short Documentary, Best Make-up and Hairstyling, Best Music, Best Song, Best Animated Short Film, Best Fiction Short Film, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects.
It is worth noting that earlier press service of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts announced that the 95th Academy Awards ceremony will be held March 12, 2023. It is planned that the presentation of statuettes will traditionally take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The nominees for one of the most prestigious awards in filmmaking will be announced on January 24.
The Oscars are open to movies that have been in theatrical distribution in Los Angeles County for at least seven consecutive days in the calendar year preceding the year of the award.
