Britney Spears' finances
Mathew Rosengart A new lawyer for singer Britney Spears is demanding that control of her finances be transferred to a professional auditor. This was reported by Fox News television on Monday, citing court documents.
Rosengart, who undertook to defend the singer in court in early July, has filed a motion demanding that Britney Spears' father James Spears be removed from custody as it is in the best interests of the person in custody. As a counter measure, the singer's lawyer is demanding that control of her finances be transferred to the auditor Jason Rubin. He specialises in forensic accounting in particular and has dealt with custody transfer cases on several occasions.
As noted in the defence motion, Jason Rubin must have access to all documents and records relating to the singer's finances. A hearing to consider the transfer of custody is scheduled in court in Los Angeles for December 13 this year. Spears' new lawyer has previously stated that he intends to seek to have her father removed from her custody in court.
Spears was declared partially incapacitated in 2008 due to drug problems and concerns about her mental health. For more than 10 years, the singer's finances, including a multi-million dollar trust fund, were controlled by her father James Spears and a court-appointed lawyer. The singer's father also made many decisions regarding her career, treatment and personal life. Some of the singer's fans claimed that she did not want this, but was forced to agree.
The singer's fortune is estimated at around $60m. Spears is the recipient of a number of music awards, including a Grammy.
