Michael Hewson is Chief market analyst at CMC MARKETS. Respected for his candid and direct market commentary, Michael is a well-known face on both financial and mainstream TV, appearing regularly on BBC News, Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, Fox Business and several other outlets in the UK, North America and the Middle East.

Career

His primary focus is on providing technical and fundamental analysis on the daily movements in financial markets, as well as research articles focused on topical financial and economic issues. Michael also participates in regular trading webinars for clients, and delivers seminars across the country, catering for varying levels of experience.

Michael has been nominated for 'Analyst of the year 2019' in City AM's annual awards. City AM describe Michael as an "energetic commentator across a range of sectors ... one of the most familiar faces on business news channels. This year his scepticism on major tech IPOs such as Uber and Lyft has been especially notable given the inflated valuations placed on loss-making tech firms. The poor performance of both companies since their IPOs have proved him right. Hewson also made a big call at the beginning of the year, correctly predicting a Fed rate cut at a time when a rate rise was widely expected."

With his background in FX trading, Michael spent six years trading currencies, with a particular emphasis on charting and technical analysis. Before joining CMC Markets, he spent over 12 years delivering technical analysis education and support to experienced traders, private investors, corporate and retail clients, for a market data company.

Michael has delivered seminars on trading and technical analysis at the World Money Show, London Business School and London Stock Exchange. He holds an MSTA from the UK Society of Technical Analysts (STA) and also a CFTe from the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA).

Michael regularly outperforms analysts from 29 international banks and financial institutions to top FX Week’s weekly rankings tables, based on monthly, quarterly and annual forecasts for five major currency pairs.
