Mary Beth’s Final Show
As Mary Beth Roe approaches the end of her 37-year career at QVC, she’s taking a moment to honor the late icons she had the privilege of working with—legends who left a lasting impact on both the network and her life.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly ahead of her retirement special on March 21, Roe, 65, reflected on her time with stars like Joan Rivers, a woman she initially found intimidating but quickly grew to love.
“I was scared of Joan when she first came, and I was her first host,” Roe admitted. “They gave her to me because it was jewelry, and that was my forte. I thought, ‘Oh, this lady is gonna chew me up and spit me out.’”
To her surprise, Rivers was nothing like the sharp-tongued persona she portrayed on stage. She was warm, generous, and always willing to help—offering Roe access to top doctors when her young daughter was ill.
Beyond Rivers, Roe fondly recalled working with beloved QVC figures like beauty expert Tova Borgnine, Quacker Factory’s Jeanne Bice, and hairstylist Nick Chavez.
“You’ve got Nick Chavez who was from Los Angeles, and he and I didn’t have anything in common except hair,” Roe joked. “He loved to do my hair because I had a lot of it, and it could get pretty big. But you know what? I just loved that man.”
Looking back, Roe believes the magic of QVC wasn’t just about selling products — it was about the connections, both with her colleagues and the viewers at home.
“I think the viewers can be so much a part of that when they see us go through hard times,” she reflected.
As she prepares to sign off for the last time, Roe knows she’s saying goodbye to more than just a job—she’s bidding farewell to a family she’s built over decades.
My Time with Mary Beth Retirement Celebration airs Friday, March 21, at 8 p.m. ET on QVC.
