Ellin Spills on Stars
Doug Ellin, the creator of Entourage, recently opened up about the show's experience with celebrity guest stars — revealing that not all were as enthusiastic about their cameos as fans might assume. In a candid discussion on The Wager, a pickleball series hosted by Jason Kennedy, Ellin shared that, while most stars were fans eager to join the show, Christina Aguilera was one exception. Aguilera, who appeared in season 7 to perform her song “You Lost Me” from her album Bionic, reportedly had little interest in the project. "Somehow we ended up with Christina Aguilera, who did not want to be there. I didn’t know if she didn’t know what the show was,” Ellin remarked.
Ellin recalled that working with Aguilera presented unexpected hurdles, particularly regarding her reluctance to engage in off-camera dialogue. During a scene with Entourage star Jeremy Piven, Aguilera reportedly declined to interact, preferring to repeat “blah, blah, blah” instead of responding to cues. Although the episode ultimately aired as planned, Ellin noted it was one of the rare occasions when the production faced such creative roadblocks.
Despite this, Entourage remains a high point in early 2000s TV, chronicling the fictional life of rising movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his group of friends as they navigate Hollywood's highs and lows. The show not only captivated fans but also launched the careers of its main cast members, including Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, and Jerry Ferrara, while putting Jeremy Piven’s character, Ari Gold, in pop culture’s spotlight.
Alongside these behind-the-scenes reflections, The Wager provides more than just celebrity anecdotes; it’s also a competitive sports show, where Kennedy and his partner Wes Burrows take on stars like Taylor Lautner, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Shawn Johnson East in a series of friendly pickleball matches. Each game comes with playful consequences for the losing team, ranging from charity donations to social media dares. Catch The Wager on NBC Sports now, with additional streaming on platforms like Roku TV and Pluto TV later this year.
