Ex-Wife's Fierce Loyalty
Kerstin Emhoff, Doug Emhoff’s ex-wife, is gaining attention for her strong support of Vice President Kamala Harris, surpassing Melania Trump's loyalty to Donald Trump. Despite their past, Kerstin remains close to Doug and Harris, co-parenting their kids. Her prominent presence at the DNC sparked social media comparisons highlighting her enthusiasm for Harris.
Ben Wexler, a television producer, echoed this sentiment on X (formerly Twitter), posting a photo of Kerstin at the DNC with the caption, "Kamala’s husband’s ex-wife is supporting her more enthusiastically than Trump’s current wife is supporting him." Kerstin, a 57-year-old film producer, reshared the post, proudly responding, "Damn right."
Kerstin’s involvement at the DNC has already surpassed the limited appearances Melania Trump made during the Republican National Convention this year. Throughout her time at the DNC, Kerstin has been active on social media, sharing moments with key political figures and her children. In one Instagram post, she shared a selfie with Kamala Harris’s running mate Tim Walz, captioning it, “It was like new members of the family.”
Kerstin has long supported Harris, both publicly and within their blended family. She attended the 2021 inauguration and recently defended Harris against Republican criticism. In response to JD Vance's remarks about Democrats being "childless cat ladies," Kerstin stated: "For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teens, Kamala has co-parented with Doug and me. She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present."
At this year’s DNC, the Emhoff-Harris family highlighted their close-knit, nontraditional dynamic. Doug Emhoff and his son Cole spoke on stage in support of Kamala Harris. In his keynote, Doug praised Harris as a loving wife, stepmother, and future national leader, saying, "Kamala rises to the occasion. She did it for my family, and now, as the country needs her, she’s showing she’s ready to lead."
Cole reflected on their family's adjustment to the spotlight after Kamala entered politics, noting she could become the first female, Black, and Asian-American president, with Doug Emhoff as the first First Gentleman. Ella Emhoff also supported her stepmother at the DNC, showcasing their family's unity.
