Abbott and Border Patrol Leader
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, along with a leading representative from the border patrol union, have criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her lack of communication regarding the southern border situation.
On “Faulkner Focus,” Abbott criticized Biden for assigning Harris to manage the border without any outreach to Texas, a key area for illegal crossings. He expressed disappointment with the Biden-Harris administration’s failure to protect the U.S. from threats.
Abbott’s criticism comes in the wake of reports indicating that 383 known terrorists have been apprehended at the border during the Biden administration. He voiced his concern about the unknown number of terrorists that might have entered the country due to the administration’s failure to secure the border.
As Harris gears up for her presidential run, Abbott highlighted the importance of national security. He stated, “Their job is to guard our national security. Kamala Harris has been an abject failure and has endangered Americans. If we have a 9/11 style attack, it is on the hands of Kamala Harris.”
Abbott also mentioned a bill filed by Ted Cruz in Congress, named Justice for Jocelyn [Nungaray], which would require ICE to detain certain individuals rather than releasing them. He urged Harris to express her support for the bill during her upcoming visit to Houston.
Jon Anfinsen, the Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council, also expressed his disappointment with Harris, who is often referred to as the “border czar”. He blamed the Biden administration for the surge in illegal crossings and the misuse of the asylum system, attributing it to the reversal of policies implemented by the Trump administration.
Anfinsen also mentioned the demoralization within the Border Patrol due to the administration’s apparent disregard for their mission. He expressed skepticism about Harris’ choice of Vice President helping her win votes on the border issue.
In March 2021, Biden appointed Harris to lead the administration’s efforts to tackle migration, a move that was in response to critics noting the increased flow of migrants early into his presidency. Despite these efforts, illegal crossings have reached record highs in 2021, 2022, and 2023, with migrants coming from all over the world, including over 30,000 from China in 2023 alone.
