Burton has been nurturing the idea of a Beetlejuice sequel for quite some time now, initially considering a Hawaiian setting. Finally, last year, Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment and Warner Bros. teamed up to make the sequel a reality.

Variety reported in March of this year that Beetlejuice 2 is officially in the works and was scheduled to enter preproduction in May. Unfortunately, due to an ongoing writer's strike, preproduction had to be halted, and it remains uncertain when filming will resume.
