Donald Trump on running for president
Some Republicans believe that former US President Donald Trump will damage the party if he decides to announce his presidential candidacy ahead of the midterm elections to Congress in November. The Maryland governor and Republican Party spokesman Lawrence Joseph Hogan said this on Sunday.
Lawrence Joseph Hogan believes that Donald Trump will run with a 50% probability because he likes to "be in the spotlight". Meanwhile, he added that the former president's statements and actions led to a series of defeats for the Republicans: the party failed to retain power in the White House and gain a majority in the US House of Representatives.
Earlier, in an interview with Intelligencer, which is a supplement to New York magazine, Trump said that he had already made a decision regarding his participation in the upcoming presidential election, which will be held in November 2024.
According to The Washington Post, Trump may announce his participation in the presidential race as early as September.
It is worth noting that Trump has previously hinted that he is ready to run for president again in 2024, but has avoided saying so explicitly, citing the fact that he would be subject to special tax rules if he did so.
