Joe Wilson is Senior Vice President, Strategy Logistics at CarMax.
Career
As senior vice president, store strategy and logistics, Joe Wilson leads CarMax’s field strategy, including the company’s auction business and logistics services. This includes CarMax’s overall strategy for how to buy, recondition, price, move, sell, and auction cars. Additionally, Mr. Wilson is a champion of CarMax’s people-first culture and helps lead developmental and change initiatives at the company’s more than 220 stores nationwide.
Mr. Wilson has played a key leadership role in advancing the efficiency of sourcing and managing CarMax inventory throughout the last two decades. As part of the enterprise-wide omni-channel rollout, his teams have been responsible for the rapid pivot to digital auctions, resulting in sustained growth in the overall auction business including network logistics and capabilities. These capabilities were crucial as the company managed the COVID-19 crisis, as the team was able to quickly digitize wholesale auctions to an online platform. As of February 29, 2020, wholesale auctions at CarMax stores brought in more than two billion dollars’ worth of revenue.
Mr. Wilson first joined CarMax in 1995 as a buyer-in-training in Raleigh. Before being promoted to his current role, he served in a variety of roles including vice president, merchandising operations; vice president, auction services and merchandising development; assistant vice president, auction services and merchandising development; regional vice president of merchandising; purchasing manager; and senior buyer.

He received his Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Richmond.
