Apple's shares
Apple shares rose 2.43% on Tuesday, continuing their recovery from the February-March decline. The decline was likely caused by investor concerns about the impact of a global shortage of semiconductors. Although Apple has not commented on chip supply problems, they could affect the pace of production and supply of the company's new products.
The $2.2 trillion rise in the world's most valuable company's stock market value since the start of 2021 has lagged behind that of other major technology companies. Shares in Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Netflix (NFLX) and Google Alphabet (GOOG,GOOGL) are up 13.4%, 4.4%, 2.4% and 29.4% YTD respectively, while Apple is up just 1.3%.
Also, Apple's report for the holiday quarter ending December 2020 showed both Mac sales up 21% to $8.7bn and iPad sales up 41% to $8.4bn, the highest sales of Apple tablets since 2014.
Market analysts also point out that Apple is lagging behind in home and security products, perhaps new products in this segment will also be announced at the upcoming presentation.
