Cooper’s 50 Question Gaffe
Asking a woman her age is a delicate task, but when it’s a Hollywood actress, it’s an act of sheer bravery something Bradley Cooper clearly demonstrated when he dared to ask Amy Schumer if she was already 50.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 28, Schumer, who is 43, recounted her encounter with Cooper earlier that week. “So I saw him, and you know, the usual 'how are you?' stuff, and he goes, ‘I turned 50 this year.’ Then he asked me, ‘Are you 50 yet?’” Schumer laughed, recalling her response: “I tried to recover. I’m 43, and I’m like, ‘I will be 50! But I’m not 50 yet! Yeah, no, I’m not, Bradley, but thanks for thinking of me!’”
It’s a harmless mistake on Cooper’s part, especially since he himself celebrated his milestone 50th birthday earlier this month (January 5). But for Schumer, still in her early forties, the question had to sting a little. She chuckled, “Look, we all want to be hot. People go through a lot to be hot. This is how bad people want to be hot: people literally run!”
The Kinda Pregnant actress has certainly experienced her share of awkward moments. Schumer also shared that she is often mistaken for comedy stars Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson by fans but it doesn’t bother her in the slightest. “And I should be so lucky,” she quipped. “I don’t correct them. I just go, ‘Yeah, Bridesmaids changed my life.’”
Schumer and Cooper have a longstanding friendship, with Schumer frequently gushing about her crush on the actor. In a 2015 interview with Fallon, she openly admitted, “Cooper is the kind of hot, trust me, when he’s in front of you, you just grab your ankles.” She continued with a playful confession: “You would say things you didn’t mean. Like, ‘any hole’s fine.’”
Her admiration for Cooper didn’t end there. Schumer even joked about changing her Facebook relationship status after a 30-minute conversation with him, claiming, “I was pretty sure we were dating. I changed my status from ‘it’s complicated’ to ‘I’m engaged to Bradley Cooper!’”
As Schumer reflected on the recent age mix-up, she couldn’t help but laugh, acknowledging that after all these years, she still has plenty of funny stories to tell about her friendship with the charismatic actor.
