Chalamet’s Lifelong Dream
Timothée Chalamet envisions a long-running partnership with acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve, expressing his admiration during the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Presenting Villeneuve with the Visionary Award alongside Amy Adams, Chalamet described the filmmaker as “a mentor, a close friend, and someone I hope to collaborate with more than anyone else in my career.”
Reflecting on their shared projects, including Dune and its upcoming sequel, Chalamet humorously compared his standing to Jake Gyllenhaal, Villeneuve’s earlier frequent collaborator. He joked about surpassing Gyllenhaal in "total production days," teasingly apologizing to the actor for Villeneuve’s evolving preference for him as a lead.
On a deeper note, Chalamet praised Villeneuve’s enigmatic nature, calling him “a rare artist,” adding, “What makes Denis tick is beyond me. But I know he’s warm, quick to laugh, and throws himself fully into his work.”
Amy Adams, who worked with Villeneuve on Arrival, lauded the director’s fearless approach to storytelling, crediting him with bringing complexity and wonder to the screen.
Villeneuve, in his acceptance speech, underscored the importance of empathy in cinema, thanking his collaborators and family for their support. “Our future needs more empathy, and cinema is one of the most powerful art forms to generate it,” he said.
The evening also saw Chalamet honored with the Chairman’s Award for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. Reflecting on his journey, the actor expressed gratitude for the opportunities in his career and noted how the true gift of recognition lies in the chance to continue creating.
The star-studded gala served as a kick-off to the Palm Springs International Film Festival, with honors also going to Adrien Brody, Ariana Grande, Angelina Jolie, and others for their contributions to cinema.
