Ellen’s Bold UK Escape
Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly made a dramatic life change by leaving their Montecito, California, estate behind to settle in the picturesque Cotswolds region of England. According to sources, the couple decided to relocate permanently following Donald Trump’s recent re-election, citing deep dissatisfaction with the current political climate in the United States.
The move, first reported by The Wrap, signals a definitive break from their American roots. DeGeneres, 66, and de Rossi, 51, had purchased their English countryside home prior to the election. However, Trump’s win acted as the final push for them to leave the country, with insiders claiming they are “very disillusioned” and determined to “never return.”
Their Montecito property, located just north of Los Angeles, is either already privately listed or soon to be on the market, as per TMZ. The couple’s decision has also stirred reactions online, with British broadcaster Piers Morgan sarcastically tweeting in response: “OMG... no!”
This transition comes on the heels of a tumultuous few years for DeGeneres. After facing backlash from a 2020 BuzzFeed News investigation alleging a toxic workplace culture on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the comedian ultimately ended her long-running talk show in 2022. Since then, DeGeneres has stepped back from the spotlight, recently announcing her retirement from live performances following her Netflix special, For Your Approval.
DeGeneres and de Rossi are not the only high-profile figures considering a departure from the U.S. due to political tensions. Actress America Ferrera, 40, was recently spotted touring schools in South West London for her children, and Sharon Stone revealed she’s exploring options in Italy. “I think that’s an intelligent construct at this time,” the Basic Instinct star remarked, highlighting her concerns over Trump’s divisive rhetoric.
Meanwhile, Trump’s new administration has already drawn criticism for controversial cabinet picks, including Matt Gaetz for attorney general and conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for health secretary.
As the dust settles, it seems DeGeneres and de Rossi have chosen to write a new chapter far from the turbulence of U.S. politics, embracing a quieter life in the English countryside.
