Victoria's Historic Victory
In a glittering spectacle held at Mexico City Arena, Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark claimed the prestigious title of Miss Universe, marking the first time a Danish contestant has won the competition in its 73-year history.
Theilvig, a passionate animal protection advocate who also works in the diamond-selling business, emerged victorious in a close contest against Miss Nigeria, who secured second place. The host country’s own Miss Mexico placed third, completing the top three at the star-studded event.
An audience of 20,000 fans cheered enthusiastically, waving flags from around the globe as 131 mariachi musicians and Black Eyed Peas' singer Taboo performed “Mexicana,” a song composed by Emilio Estefan specifically for the occasion.
Theilvig described the experience as "beyond my wildest dreams" and added, “Winning this title is not just a personal victory; it’s a win for every young person in Denmark who dares to dream big.”
The glamorous evening, co-hosted by Mario López, Olivia Culpo (Miss Universe 2012), Zuri Hall, and Catriona Gray (Miss Universe 2018), featured contestants from over 120 nations, including first-time representatives from countries like Belarus, Eritrea, and the Maldives.
This year’s pageant, the third to be hosted in Mexico, was hailed as a celebration of diversity and empowerment, with Denmark shining brightly at its heart.
