Navigating Love and Law
Brad Pitt, the star of “Bullet Train,” and Angelina Jolie may not be officially divorced, but that doesn’t stop Pitt from potentially tying the knot with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon. Their relationship was confirmed in November 2022, and they made a public appearance at F1’s British Grand Prix on July 7.
Interestingly, Pitt and Jolie were declared legally single in 2019, which technically allows Pitt to marry Ramon. However, the divorce proceedings between Pitt and Jolie are still ongoing. As divorce attorney Kara Chrobak explains, “Being declared legally single in 2019 has the benefit of allowing them to somewhat move on with their lives and at least consider themselves both separate and not married.”
Pitt and de Ramon seem to be taking their time with their relationship, according to sources. An insider shared, “Brad and Ines both feel like they’ve met their soulmate.” They aren’t rushing towards an engagement, knowing the seriousness of their relationship doesn’t need to be proven with rings.
The decision of Pitt and Jolie to become legally single is not an uncommon one. It allows them to remarry while their divorce continues. Certified financial planner Shinobu Hindert explains, “Becoming legally single grants immediate personal independence, freeing individuals from the legal constraints of marriage.”
This legal tactic isn’t exclusive to Pitt and Jolie. Other celebrities, like Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, were also declared legally single in 2019. Dewan filed for divorce six months after they announced their separation. Interestingly, Dewan’s legal single status was announced a month after she revealed she was expecting a child with her new boyfriend, Steve Kazee.
The divorce between Dewan and Tatum has been ongoing for nearly six years, with a dispute over Tatum’s “Magic Mike” earnings. Despite this, Dewan has been able to move forward with Kazee.
