A Mother’s Journey in the White House
White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, reveals her daughter Soleil’s deep interest in the White House during a chat at the Truth Awards.
Jean-Pierre, who co-parents Soleil with her ex-partner Suzanne Malveaux, suspects that the Oval Office holds a special place in Soleil’s heart. “She’s captivated by it and has had the privilege to visit. I’d wager it’s her favorite spot, but I’d have to confirm with her,” added Jean-Pierre, who recently celebrated her 49th birthday.
The Truth Awards event was a significant occasion for Jean-Pierre, as she was honored with the History Maker award. Overwhelmed by the recognition, she shared, “I find myself questioning, ‘Why am I here? Why am I counted among these extraordinary individuals?’ But then I realize the importance of representation. We are role models for the young boys and girls who admire us. It’s a tremendous honor, and I’m humbled.”
Jean-Pierre is acutely aware of the legacy she carries. “I stand on the shoulders of the trailblazers who paved the way for me. Their excellence and experiences are my guiding light,” she acknowledged.
In 2023, Jean-Pierre and broadcast journalist Malveaux concluded their ten-year relationship. Speaking to Vogue, Jean-Pierre opened up about her journey as a single mother. “It’s challenging,” she admitted, “but we’re making it work. I’m a single mom co-parenting this incredible child.”
Jean-Pierre said: “Every challenge is an opportunity for growth. As a single mother, I’ve learned to adapt, to be resilient, and to find joy in every moment with my daughter. It’s a journey, and we’re navigating it together.”
