Kelce and Swift
Brett Favre, the retired Green Bay Packers quarterback, recently issued a cautionary statement regarding the fate of the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs. Favre, 54, asserted to TMZ Sports on Saturday, January 13, that if the Chiefs fall short and miss the Super Bowl, some fans might point fingers at tight end Travis Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
"If they don't win it or get to the Super Bowl, people are going to say, 'That's why,'" Favre explained, expressing his perspective on the matter.
However, Favre also conveyed his belief that the Chiefs are poised for success, and Swift may not have to face the unwarranted blame. "Until [coach] Andy Reid is unseated as the champion, I have to see it to believe it," Favre stated.
Following Favre's comments, NFL Network commentator Rich Eisen quickly chimed in to defend Taylor Swift. Eisen, 54, expressed his disbelief at the idea of blaming Swift for anything related to Travis Kelce, the Chiefs, or the overall state of the NFL.
"Absurd this needs saying but: Blaming @taylorswift13 for anything to do with @tkelce or the @chiefs or the state of the @NFL or viewing enjoyment of it is the silliest/dumbest take I've heard in a long time. Take your pick," Eisen wrote via X on Saturday.
Swift, who began attending games to support her boyfriend in September 2023, has unintentionally garnered attention at NFL stadiums. Despite the scrutiny, she clarified in her December TIME Person of the Year profile that she did not seek the cameras' attention.
"I don't know how they know what suite I'm in," Swift explained. "There's a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don't know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don't know if I'm being shown 17 times or once."
Kelce, in a previous interview with WSJ. Magazine in November, acknowledged the unique challenges of dating someone under constant public scrutiny. He expressed his admiration for Swift's ability to handle the constant paparazzi attention.
The couple seems prepared for the challenges ahead, though rumors about wedding bells have been circulating.
