Mike Kaufmann is the chief executive officer of the Pharmaceutical segment of Cardinal Health, which distributes approximately one-third of all medicine prescribed in the U.S. to hospitals, retail pharmacies and other care providers. The segment also includes the nation’s largest nuclear pharmacy network and provides pharmaceutical manufacturers with marketing, distribution, specialty pharmaceutical and logistics services.
Kaufmann joined Cardinal Health as a controller and has held a number of senior operational, sales and finance roles. Prior to his current role, Kaufmann was group president for the Healthcare Supply Chains Services-Medical segment, a business that provided medical, surgical and laboratory products to hospitals, surgery centers, diagnostic labs, physician offices and other sites of care. Kaufmann has also served as chief financial officer of the Healthcare Supply Chain Services segment, and also led the company’s pharmaceutical distribution transition to a fee-based service model.
Prior to Cardinal Health, Kaufmann had a successful career in audit and consulting with one of the nation’s largest public accounting firms.
Kaufmann is a member of the executive board of the Healthcare Distribution Management Association and is a board member for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. He also serves on the executive advisory board of The Gathering and is a trustee at Ohio Northern University. Kaufmann is also the executive sponsor of the Cardinal Health Women’s Initiative Network Employee Resource Group.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio Northern University.
