Biography
Bill Nash is president and chief executive officer of CarMax, the nation’s largest retailer of used cars with more than 25,000 associates at more than 220 retail locations, customer experience centers, corporate locations and CarMax Auto Finance (CAF).
Mr. Nash oversees all aspects of the business including strategy, finance, operations, technology, marketing, and human resources. He is passionate about providing both associates and customers with an exceptional, iconic experience, and has accelerated the company’s growth while maintaining a people-first culture grounded in CarMax’s values.
Career
Mr. Nash has led the company through the largest transformation in CarMax’s history by investing significantly in technology and digital initiatives to become an omnichannel retailer, enabling the company to personalize the car-buying experience to each customer’s unique needs, position the company to innovate at scale, and maintain a significant competitive advantage. The omnichannel experience also enabled CarMax to quickly respond to the changing needs of customers due to COVID-19 in 2020.
Under his leadership, CAF continues to be one of the top lenders in the used automotive space, originating over $6 billion annually. Mr. Nash also continues to ensure CarMax is a great place to work to retain and attract top talent. Mr. Nash was promoted to the President and CEO role in 2016 after serving as executive vice president of human resources and administrative services where he was responsible for leading all areas related to supporting associates and their engagement. In addition, he oversaw the technology, procurement, loss prevention, and construction and facilities departments. He was also elected to serve as a director of the CarMax board in 2016. Mr. Nash’s career at CarMax began in 1997 as an auction manager and he subsequently served in progressively senior roles in auction services and merchandising before transitioning to human resources in 2011.
Prior to joining CarMax, Mr. Nash held various positions at Circuit City, including corporate tax manager. He also received his CPA title while serving as an accountant with a public accounting firm.
Education
Mr. Nash received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in accounting from James Madison University.
