Jaime King’s Costly Move-Out
Jaime King has been compelled to move out of her Los Angeles rental following a tense legal battle with her landlord, Sheila Irani.
Court documents obtained by Us Weekly reveal that Irani filed a lawsuit against King, 45, in January, citing unpaid rent. The actress signed a lease in April 2023, agreeing to a monthly rent of $10,145. However, Irani alleged that King fell behind on payments, accumulating approximately $42,580 in overdue rent and failing to pay anything at all since January.
In response to the mounting debt, Irani reportedly locked King out of the property, accusing her of remaining there “maliciously” as an unlawful detainer. King’s legal team denied the allegations, stating that the actress had been actively trying to settle the debt despite facing unexpected hardships.
Financial Struggles and Personal Challenges
King’s attorney argued that her financial difficulties stemmed from unforeseen crises, including the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. “She has been acting in good faith to raise the funds to do so, however suffered continued setbacks and hardship due to the Los Angeles wildfires, which came within 800 feet of her home, forcing her to flee,” her attorney noted.
Adding to her personal turmoil, King is also embroiled in an ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Kyle Newman over their two sons, James, 11, and Leo, 9. Earlier this month, a court granted Newman sole physical custody, citing King’s failure to complete court-mandated rehabilitation and parenting courses.
A Settlement Reached
Despite the legal tension, King and Irani ultimately reached a settlement. As part of the agreement, King agreed to vacate the property by March 22, 2025, leaving the home in good condition. She also waived her right to reclaim her security deposit and accepted financial penalties for any delays in moving out.
Per the settlement terms, King acknowledged that any delay past the agreed-upon move-out date would result in a $1,000 daily penalty.
With the legal dispute seemingly resolved, King now faces the challenge of rebuilding her personal and professional life amid ongoing custody proceedings and financial strain.
