Hollywood Bound: Gatwa’s Future
There are reports suggesting that Ncuti Gatwa, best known for his role in Sex Education, is contemplating leaving Doctor Who after just one season. The 32-year-old actor, who debuted as the iconic Time Lord in December 2023, is believed to be eyeing new opportunities, including relocating to Los Angeles to pursue Hollywood roles.
The upcoming second season, slated to air later this year, will be pivotal. While Gatwa's future on the show remains uncertain, it’s been reported that the BBC and show producers are waiting until after the new season airs to make any final decisions.
The actor’s team is reportedly concerned about fan backlash and how the perception of Gatwa as The Doctor might affect his future career opportunities. A source close to Gatwa revealed: "Ncuti doesn’t want to be tied to the series beyond this and plans to relocate to Los Angeles with several Hollywood projects standing by for him."
Doctor Who continues to evolve with exciting new storylines, including the return of fan-favorite character Susan Twist, played by actress Susan Triad. The upcoming season will also introduce Belinda Chandra, portrayed by Andor star Varada Sethu, who joins Gatwa’s first companion, Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson). Sethu shared her enthusiasm about joining the iconic series, calling it an “unforgettable adventure,” adding, “I couldn’t ask for a better team than Ncuti and Millie to be on this journey with this is SO much fun!”
While Gatwa's potential departure would mark the earliest exit since Christopher Eccleston’s brief stint in 2005, the future of Doctor Who still remains full of promise, with many more adventures ahead.
