Daniel Craig Reveals Challenges of Filming 'Terrible' Love Scenes with A-List Actresses

Craig’s Candid Confession

During his time as James Bond, Daniel Craig was seen as one of the most desirable actors in the world, but now, looking back on his career, he admits that some of his famous love scenes weren’t quite as glamorous as they seemed.

"I’ve shot some terrible f—ing love scenes in my career," the 56-year-old actor said while promoting his latest film, Queer. "They’re out there to see."

Over his decades-long career, Craig has shared the screen with several iconic leading ladies, including his real-life wife, Rachel Weisz, whom he met on the set of Dream House in 2011. Despite any on-set discomfort, the two eventually turned their on-screen chemistry into a real-life romance. Beyond Weisz, Craig has shared steamy scenes with the likes of Sienna Miller in Layer Cake and several Bond girls, including Eva Green, Halle Berry, Monica Bellucci, and Lea Seydoux.

However, in Queer, Craig steps into new territory with a same-sex romance alongside actor Drew Starkey. The film, adapted from William S. Burroughs’ novel, tells the story of American expat William Lee (Craig), a war veteran who falls for the younger and troubled Eugene Allerton (Starkey). Unlike some of his earlier films, Craig is particularly proud of the authenticity brought to these intimate scenes. "Sex is wonderful and messy and complicated, and hopefully we’ve managed to stick that on the screen,” he shared, adding that they aimed to show the vulnerability and rawness of real life.

This performance has already been met with praise, with Venice Film Festival’s Artistic Director Alberto Barbera calling it Craig’s “performance of a lifetime.”

Since bidding farewell to James Bond with No Time To Die in 2021, Craig has embraced a wide range of projects, notably his standout role as detective Benoit Blanc in the Knives Out series. His post-Bond career has allowed him to follow his passions more freely, something he values deeply. “I don’t have a game plan,” Craig noted. “I’m very privileged to be in a position not to have to work as much as I used to, but if I do the job, I want it to be like this.”

His departure from the Bond franchise hasn’t just transformed his career — it’s also given Craig the freedom to explore his personal style, from bold red carpet choices to his new, more relaxed look at the Venice premiere.
