Computer Literacy Day

Computer Literacy Day

The annual celebration of World Computer Literacy Day on December 2nd was initiated by N.I.I.T. in 2001 as a tribute to the company's 20-year anniversary and a means to promote computer literacy, particularly among women and children. In our futuristic society, where computers have become ubiquitous, this holiday serves as a reminder to contribute to making them more accessible and user-friendly for those who may find themselves challenged by technological advancements.

About the holiday

Brief History

World Computer Literacy Day was started in 2001. It was started by a company called N.I.I.T. to celebrate its 20th birthday. N.I.I.T is a company that helps people learn how to use computers. It was founded in 1981.
N.I.I.T noticed that most people who used computers were men. So they wanted to teach more women and kids how to use them. N.I.I.T has been in over 30 countries. Computers were first made in the 1800s. Charles Babbage made the first one. It could do simple math. Before that, people used things like the abacus and the Napier bones.
Now, computers are small and we can carry them in our hands.

How It’s Celebrated

On World Computer Literacy Day, various activities are organized by educational institutions, community centers, and organizations. These activities include workshops, training sessions, and digital literacy programs that aim to bridge the technology gap.

Many companies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) offer free computer training courses or resources to help individuals improve their digital skills. Awareness campaigns are also launched through media and social media platforms to emphasize the importance of computer literacy for both personal and professional development.
