Description
Since its inception in 1926, as a grassroots social service agency, the Huntington-based Family Service League has grown dramatically — achieving national accreditation and expanding its scope of influence and support throughout Long Island. Today, more than 50,000 individuals in need, from newborns to centenarians, rely on the social safety net that Family Service League provides.
Currently, the organization provides 50 social service programs in more than 20 localities, located mainly in Suffolk County. The company's tireless staff of more than 600 specialists and support staff provides both physical and emotional assistance to the most vulnerable citizens of Long Island. The company gives older people communication and purpose, gives hope and protection to the homeless, dispels the fears and despair of young people suffering from addiction or mental illness, and offers food and shelter to the working poor who face an insurmountable financial burden. Most importantly, the company strives to ensure that vulnerable families are strong and receive support. In its five family centers, up to 20 different social services are represented, combined into one assistance center, which allows vulnerable families to use numerous comprehensive services more efficiently and in a coordinated manner.
