Mayo Clinic partially owns and operates Mayo Clinic Health System. Founded in 1992, Mayo Clinic Health System is as a network of community-based medical services. In 2021, it consisted of more than 40 hospitals and clinics in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. The President of Mayo Clinic Health System, Prathibha Varkey, M.B.B.S. (since 2021), is a board member of the Mayo Clinic Board of Directors.
Mayo Clinic Health System
Mayo Clinic Health System was founded in 1992. This system links the expertise of Mayo Clinic with health care providers in local communities in southern Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and northeastern Iowa. Mayo Clinic and Mayo Health Systems re-branded their integrated health system to be known as Mayo Clinic Health System on May 23, 2011. The Mayo Clinic Health System consist of hospitals, clinics, and medical service centers. The Fountain Centers were established by Mayo Clinic in 1974 to assist individuals and their families that have alcohol and other drug problems.
Some its facilities in southwest Minnesota (a hospital, clinics and emergency room in Springfield, Minnesota and clinics in Lamberton, Minnesota) were forced to close in 2019–2020 due to a lack of patients and doctors, which lead to negative operating margins.
