Biography
Dennis J. Gilmore is chief executive officer of First American Financial Corporation and also serves as president of the company's largest subsidiary, First American Title Insurance Company.
Career
Prior to the company's spin-off from The First American Corporation, Gilmore served as chief operating officer for that company and was responsible
for helping to establish the course of its operating and technology initiatives and managing its offshore operations. Following the announcement of First American's planned spin-off in January of 2008, his duties shifted to focus on running the company's Financial Services businesses, and he was named to his current position as chief executive officer of the resulting entity upon completion of the spin-off in June 2010.
After beginning his career in the lending industry in 1985, Gilmore joined TRTS Data Services in 1988. First American acquired that company in 1991 and Gilmore was named vice president and area manager, and was then promoted to regional vice president two years later. In 1993, he moved to First American's title division to pioneer the Lenders Advantage program, the company's entry into centralized title and closing services. After his promotion to regional vice president and national director in 1996, Gilmore coordinated the expansion of the Lenders Advantage concept throughout the United States to create a uniform, nationwide title and escrow product. When First American and Experian joined forces in 1998, Gilmore became the first president of the resulting joint venture, First American Real Estate Solutions LLC.
Education
Gilmore, who holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from San Diego State University and a master's degree in business administration from Loyola Marymount University, currently serves on the advisory board of San Diego State University's College of Business Administration. He also is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association's Residential Board of Governors, which is responsible for establishing legislative and regulatory policies and positions on single-family residential lending issues.
