Chefs Day
The International Day of Chefs is celebrated worldwide on October 20th every year. This day honors chefs and promotes the importance of healthy eating. Each year, a theme is chosen for International Chefs Day — in 2020, it was «Healthy Food for the Future», and the same theme was repeated in 2021, with a stronger emphasis on sustainability and creating a healthy environment for future generations. Dr. Bill Gallagher, a distinguished chef and former president of the World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs), established International Chefs Day in 2004.
About the holiday
Brief History
A chef has been very important for a long time. Food is very important and we have been cooking for a long time too. A Roman chef named Marcus Apicius wrote the first cookbook in the first century. It had more than 400 recipes. In 1765, a man named A. Boulanger opened a restaurant in Paris. The word restaurant means a place to eat. Alexis Soyer was a famous chef in England. He made food for poor people. He also made a stove for soldiers. Auguste Escoffier made a system for cooking in 1870. Each person in the kitchen did a special job. His book is still used by chefs today.
