Relaxation Day
Sometimes, it’s important to take a step back and appreciate the beauty around you. On August 15, we celebrate National Relaxation Day. While it’s essential to strive for excellence, the American work ethic can sometimes be a double-edged sword. It’s difficult to avoid burnout without occasionally allowing yourself to relax. National Relaxation Day provides an opportunity to say no to certain responsibilities. No, you won’t be braiding Kiki’s hair. No, you don’t feel like cooking Pennywhistle Pasta for the school bazaar. It’s time to unwind and unwind!
About the holiday
Brief History
National Relaxation Day was founded in 1985 by Sean Moeller, a fourth-grader, who suggested that people should not do anything valuable on this day and that work and cleaning were not relaxation. Moeller still celebrates the day and, since 2016, has been recognizing one person annually for their dedication to relaxation. Many charities, media organizations, and public institutions participate, including the US Army, Sport England, The New Scientist, the Mental Health Foundation, and BBC Earth, so it is a big deal.
How to celebrate
There are many ways to celebrate National Relaxation Day. Some people may choose to take a day off work or school and spend time doing activities they enjoy, such as reading, taking a bath, or going for a walk. Others may choose to spend time with loved ones or participate in relaxation-focused events or workshops.
