Apollo Global Management, Inc., is a global alternative investment manager firm. It was founded in 1990 by Leon Black, Josh Harris, and Marc Rowan. March 2021, Apollo Global Management announced plans to merge with Athene Holding, the life insurance company. The merger values Athene at $11 billion. Since it was founded in 2009, Athene has been backed by Apollo. Athene went public in 2016 and had a market capitalization of just over $10 billion. Prior to the merger announcement, Apollo already owned 35% of Athene. The deal is expected to close in January 2022. The combined entity will have a market cap of $29 billion, making it eligible for inclusion in the S&P 500 index.
