Tri Pointe Homes is an American home building company founded in Irvine, California in 2009. It constructs first to luxury single family homes and townhomes. The company operates in 10 states of the Western and Southern United States and offers financing and insurance services to homebuyers.
As of January 2021, Tri Pointe is the 16th-largest homebuilder in the United States.
History
Tri Pointe was founded in Irvine, California by Doug Bauer, Tom Mitchell and Mike Grubbs in 2009. Initially, Starwood Capital partnered with the company and invested $150 million in private equity.
In January 2013, Tri Pointe became a public company and was the first to do so since 2004.
In 2014, Tri Pointe merged with the Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company (WRECO) and acquired the following subsidiaries as a result:
- Maracay Homes based in Scottsdale, Arizona and founded in 1991
- Pardee Homes in Nevada and California and founded in 1921
- Quadrant Homes, based in Bellevue, Washington and acquired by WRECO in 1969
- Trendmaker Homes, based in Houston, Texas and founded in 1971.
- Winchester Homes, based in Bethesda, Maryland and founded in 1979
After the 2014 merger, Tri Pointe Homes rebranded as TRI Pointe Group, Inc. and Tri Pointe Homes became one of the corporation's subsidiaries.
In October 2018, TRI Pointe announced a new division in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina with Gray Shell as division president.
In January 2021, TRI Pointe Group changed its corporate name and rebranded all of its subsidiaries under the new name, Tri Pointe Homes, Inc.
Initiatives
In 2017, TRI Pointe Homes Northern California announced its “Think Outside the Box” program to help new homeowners recycle and reuse cardboard moving boxes.
In 2018, Pardee Homes opened its first all-solar master-planned community in California. In the same year, Trendmaker Homes partnered with BuildAid, "a rebuild initiative for pre-qualified homeowners whose homes flooded because of Hurricane Harvey".
LivingSmart
