International Data Corporation (IDC) is an international research and consulting company, founded in 1964, dedicated to studying the global information technology and telecommunications markets. It is a division of publishing company International Data Group headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts. According to its own data, IDC employs more than 1,100 analysts in 110 countries who collect and process information on local IT markets.
History
IDC was founded by Patrick McGovern in 1964 when he conducted computer market research for UNIVAC, Xerox and Burroughs. He hired students to do the analysis. After three years, the company had revenues of $600,000.
