Biography

Casey Bloys is Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content Casey Bloys is Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content. After becoming president of HBO programming in May 2016, he assumed original content responsibilities for HBO Max in August 2020, encompassing all HBO Original and Max Original series, documentaries, and specials.

In April 2022, Bloys’ purview expanded to include the Magnolia Network. In May 2023, with the launch of the new Max platform, Bloys continues to oversee HBO and Max Originals.

Under his leadership, Bloys’ compelling slate of groundbreaking original programming has continued to breakthrough. In 2022, his programming received 38 Emmy® Awards across 13 titles, more than any network or streaming platform; it was also the most nominated with 140 nods, besting HBO’s previous record of 137 nominations in 2019.

Additionally, with House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, The Last of Us and Euphoria, Bloys had four current original series with cross-platform audiences averaging more than 15 million viewers per episode, a first in HBO history.

Bloys’ slate also includes such award-winning and culturally impactful programming as HBO’s Succession, Industry, Barry, The Rehearsal, Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, along with Max Originals Hacks, Station Eleven, Our Flag Means Death, Rap Sh!t, And Just Like That…, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Love & Death, and Peacemaker.

Recent titles include HBO’s The Idol, True Detective: Night Country, The Sympathizer and The Regime as well as Max Originals Full Circle and Dune: The Sisterhood. Additionally, Bloys is continuing to expand the DC universe with Max Originals such as The Penguin.

During his 19-year tenure, he has overseen the development and production of a long list of HBO programming, including Flight of The Conchords, Eastbound and Down, Veep, Girls, Silicon Valley, and Enlightened. After he began overseeing the drama group, HBO launched Mare of Easttown, Watchmen, Succession, Euphoria, Westworld, Big Little Lies, My Brilliant Friend, The Undoing, and Chernobyl.

Bloys was promoted to the role of President, HBO series, late night and specials in February 2016, responsible for the development and production of all series, talk shows and specials for the network. Before that, he served as Executive Vice President, HBO Programming from 2013, and was responsible for comedy series, late night and specials.

He joined HBO in 2004 as Director, Development, HBO Independent Productions (HIP), and was promoted to Vice President, HIP, in 2005. In 2006, he was named Vice President, HBO Entertainment, spearheading the development and production of comedy series and named Senior Vice President in 2009.

Prior to HBO, he was director, Development, for Wass-Stein Productions, from 2000 to 2004. He began his career as an assistant in the Current and Development departments of CBS. In 2023, Bloys was appointed to the Television Academy’s executive committee. He has a BA in Economics from Northwestern University.
