Career
He has been a journalist since 1999, starting out at a weekly paper in Caribou, Maine. His favorite reporting assignments include interviews of author Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and chef Anthony Bourdain, covering a Phish concert, riding in a hot-air balloon over the Adirondack foothills, and cruising over The Travelers Championship golf tournament in the MetLife blimp. At age 11, Matt delivered the Buffalo News door to door in his hometown of East Aurora, N.Y. He has worked as a canoe guide in Northern Maine, a dining-hall manager, a mental-health therapy aide, an industrial laundry worker, a waiter, a soda jerk, a doughnut maker and a cake decorator.
Education
He holds a double-degree bachelor of science in business (human resources management) and bachelor of arts in psychology from the State University of New York at Oswego. He has a master of arts in liberal studies with a concentration in writing from Dartmouth.
