Beard Day

The beard is a symbol of manliness. It can be close, full or wild. It stands for strength and wisdom. In some cultures, it shows high social status. The beard has always been respected. There were times when it was not in style to have a beard. But many people still admire those who have a good beard. World Beard Day is a day to celebrate the beard.

About the holiday

Brief History

Everyone in the world celebrates the day when people have beards. It is on the first Saturday of September. People didn’t shave until 4000 years ago. Men had beards then. Beards were good for keeping warm and for protecting your face if you got hit. We don’t know when World Beard Day started, but some people think it was in 800 AD. Then, people didn’t have a special day for beards. They had parties for beards in different places. Some parties were crazy. For example, in Dönskborg in Sweden, people without beards were sent to the forest. People with beards burned pictures of people without beards. Also, in Spain, people with beards and people without beards fought in a boxing match. The man with the beard had a sharp stick. It is bad to shave on World Beard Day. In some places, people with beards are honored on that day.

How to Celebrate

There are many ways to celebrate World Beard Day. Here are some ideas:

  • Share your beard: Post pictures of your beard on social media with the hashtag #WorldBeardDay. Share your experiences and tips for growing and maintaining a beard.
  • Support local businesses: If you are going to a barber or stylist for your beard, support a local business. This will help to keep money in the community and support small businesses.
